Iranian Nuclear Agency Issues Dark Threats
A spokesman for the atomic energy agency in Iran issued a fiery statement Wednesday that if the US re-imposes any kind of economic or political sanctions on Iran, for any reason, it would be considered a violation of the 2015 JCPOA nuclear accord and the US would quickly be punished. He added that Iran has the capacity to quickly increase its uranium enrichment activities, although some analysts cast doubt on this assertion. In related news, Turkey urged Iran and Russia to reign in an Assad regime offensive in Idlib province, which borders Turkey and has been part of Turkish territory at different points in history. Elsewhere, the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have threatened to block the strategic Bab al-Mandab strait at the southern end of the Red Sea if military pressure being put on them by a Saudi-led coalition is not eased.

Netanyahu Addresses Foreign Correspondents
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave his annual briefing to foreign journalists in Israel Wednesday evening, telling them among other things that US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman was absolutely correct to assign blame for the impasse in the peace process to the Palestinian Authority. “An Israeli father of six was killed last night in cold blood by Palestinian terrorists. Hamas praises the killers and PA laws will provide them financial rewards,” Friedman wrote on his Twitter account in reaction to the murder of Raziel Shevach. “Look no further to why there is no peace.”

Describing the tweet as containing the “unvarnished truth” Netanyahu added, “The important thing is that the Abbas government is supporting the kind of murderers who murder the father of six…I think they should redirect their funds to other things. Funding and incentifying murder doesn’t exactly advance peace. This is the principle they are communicating to their people, kill Israelis and get rich. What kind of message does that send to impressionable Palestinian children?”

Hundreds Attend Funeral of Slain Rabbi
Several hundred mourners attended the funeral at the West Bank outpost of Havat Gilad Wednesday afternoon for slain Rabbi Raziel Shevach, the 35-year-old father of six children who was shot dead in a terrorist drive-by shooting the day before. Family members, government officials and senior military officers were among the mourners, with his wife Yael leading the eulogies. In possibly related news, the Civil Administration announced Wednesday that it had approved the construction of 1,122 new housing units in the West Bank communities of Emanuel, Ariel, Adam, Maale Adumim and Beitar Illit.
BDS Movement Suffers Another Defeat
The Chinese Foreign Ministry dealt yet another defeat to the international effort to Boycott, Divest and Sanction (BDS) Israel this week when it removed a travel advisory it had put in place following the announcement last month by US President Donald Trump recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. The advisory was put in place because of warnings of possible violence and rioting following the announcement but has been lifted after such demonstrations failed to materialize. Roughly 122,500 Chinese tourists visited Israel in 2017.
